2024 FALL Ball FAQs

MILL offers Tee Ball, Baseball & Softball for Boys & Girls Ages 4 – 16!

What Fall Ball programs are offered?
  • COED:
  • Tee Ball, typically league ages 4–5
  • Minor A (Coach Pitch played on tee ball sized field), typically league ages 6–7

  • Baseball & Softball:
  • Minor AA (Machine Pitch), typically league ages 7 – 8
  • Minor AAA (Player Pitch), typically league ages 9 – 10
  • Majors, typically league ages 11 – 12

  • Baseball Only:
  • Intermediate (50/70 pitching & bases), typically league ages 12 – 13

  • Baseball & Softball:
  • Juniors (60/90 pitching & bases for baseball), typically league ages 13 – 14
  • Seniors (60/90 pitching & bases for baseball), typically league ages 15 – 16

What is meant by “League Age”?
  • The league age of your child may not be their current, actual age.
  • Your child will play as their league age for the entirety of the season.
  • League age is determined by the following cutoff dates:
  • Baseball child’s age on August 31ˢᵗ, 2025
  • Softball child’s age on January 1ˢᵗ, 2025

How are teams formed?
  • Teams will be formed based on coach requests made in the registration system. MILL will attempt to fill all requests where possible but can’t guarantee all will be fulfilled.
  • NOTE: For competitive balance reasons, Majors division and up teams may be built based on a draft by the coaches. No tryout required. This will be a decision made by the board of directors as needed.

What is the cost of Fall Ball?
  • $85 per player for all divisions. A discount included for siblings. A late fee applies after August 5th, 2024.

When will I find out what team my player is on?
  • Rosters will be published late August & head coaches will contact players.

Are jerseys or uniforms provided?
  • Fall ball participants will receive a jersey and hat only for all divisions.

What equipment does my child need to play?
  • All players require a batting helmet, fielding glove and a bat.
  • Cleats are recommended for divisions AA & above.
  • Metal cleats are ONLY allowed for Intermediate 50/70, Juniors & Seniors divisions.
  • Athletic cups are required for male players that will be playing the position of catcher.

How often do players practice?
  • Practices will begin no sooner than August 19th.
  • AA Divisions and below will have 2 activities per week, (2 practices or 1 practice/1 game).
  • AAA and above will have 3 scheduled instances per week: 2 practices per week, before games begin and once games begin, teams will not hold more than 3 instances per week combined between practices and games.
  • Practice start times on weeknights are typically 5 pm for Minor AAA and younger and 7 pm for Majors and older and 1-2 hours in length.

Where will practices be held?
  • Mitchell Ellington, MILA, Audubon, and Tropical depending on the number of teams & head coach preference.

How long does the Fall Ball season run?
  • Practices will begin no sooner than August 19th.
  • Games will run through a 10-week schedule beginning September 7th.
  • 1 game per week for AA and down divisions.
  • 1-2 games per week for AAA and up divisions with a max of 15 games total.

When will games be played?
  • Begin no sooner than September 7th.
  • 50/70, Juniors, & Seniors —> typically weeknights
  • Majors —> typically Mondays & Fridays
  • Minor AAA —> typically Tuesdays & Saturdays
  • Minor AA —> typically Saturdays
  • Minor A & Tee Ball —> typically Saturdays

Where will games be located?
  • Primarily at Mitchell Ellington followed by MILA and Audubon.
  • Interleague games will be scheduled for the AAA divisions and up depending on the number of teams in each division otherwise all games will be in-house only.
  • Off-site locations for inter-league games with other nearby leagues such as Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Rockledge, Cocoa, Port St. John, Titusville (IRC) and Mims are likely. 
  • Older divisions and softball may also play games in Viera, Melbourne, and Satellite Beach, etc.

How can I get involved and volunteer with Merritt Island Little League (MILL)?
  • MILL is operated SOLELY on a volunteer basis.
  • If you would like to volunteer as a head coach, assistant, team mom, umpire, etc, you can communicate that during your child’s registration process.
